The Cubic Office is located at a prime location of Marine drive – South Mumbai. It was a tight box of approximately 275 sq.ft. Carpet area. The brief from the client was that to create a fresh bright functional office with main requirements of a boss cabin and workstations of 2-3 staff. Also since the office dealt with a lot of paper work and record keeping, they requested to have as much storage as possible without making the space look too cramped up.
The zonal planning was simple of diving the space 40-60 amongst the two main functions of the boss’s cabin & the staff area, respectively. Leading to the storage being lined up against the longer length, to have ample of storage and keep the space as de-cluttered as possible. Larger niches were introduced in the storage units to break the monotony and make the space look lighter.
Since the space was a tight one, we decided to keep the colour palate on neutral monochrome shades of beige. Fresh bright colour such as orange was introduced in the storage niches, pantry top, waiting area seats, etc. One of the larger niches in the storage unit was used to create a small waiting area, a seat for two, which was placed close to the entrance area.
The site had its limitation of having opening for natural light & ventilation only on its rear end. We decided to use this in our design favor and we opened the existing heavy wooden partition with a clean crisp contemporary glass partition.
This also helped us with our space division and zonal planning, where we decided to have the boss's cabin at the far end while the entrance part of the office would be utilized for the staff & their workstations. We managed to introduce a fully functionally pantry near the entrance area, which hosted all its utilities such as microwave, water dispenser, coffee-tea maker, a mini refrigerator and additional storage for various miscellaneous items.
We created a luxurious and soothing space with a balanced blend of aesthetics and design functionality that optimize the use of space and natural inflow of light.
