Situated near Morjim Beach - Goa, The Wanderers Hostel & Resort is spread across approximately 30,000 sq.ft. of lush green landscaped area. The resort is segregated into separate areas based on various functions: hostel- dorms, private tents, restaurant, yoga/recreational area, holiday activity, etc.
Morjim Beach being known for foreign tourism, the resort is created keeping the concept of a backpackers hostel as the main spine of the resort. The built form of the space is intentionally designed to break the barrier of inside outside, thus enhancing interaction between guests and adding a sense of belonging & warmth.
Simultaneously, saving the existing landscape was a great challenge in itself. The landscape was the inspiration for the complex, which attempted to create a serene atmosphere enhancing ones experience of leisure and relaxation.
The Resort mainly comprises of the Hostel block & the Private Tents. Each of the Private tents open onto a private verandah space connecting one to the outside lush landscape area. Supporting areas such as a restaurant, swimming pool, yoga/recreational area are carefully situated around this space.
The hostel block on the other hand is a ground plus two structure, bonded internally with a common breathing space at the ground level encouraging interaction amongst people from cross cultures from around the world. Break out spaces are provided at upper levels carrying forward the experience.
The interior & exterior architecture along with the material palette chosen is greatly inspired by the local Goan culture & environment. One can see the splash of colours and the earthy feel given to the spaces to make a visitor completely experience Goa in its true sense. The spaces are adorned with subtle expressions of local mural art, adding value to the experience.
The language of the built forms is aided entirely by its context and the calm and simplicity of the surroundings is allowed to permeate the interiors.
